DAY 1: LIMA | INC: -

Upon your arrival in Lima you will be met by a Viajes Pacifico staff member, who will assist you with your luggage, and provide a brief city orientation and helpful information. Transfer to hotel and overnight stay in Lima.

Early morning departure to Pachacamac, located 30km south of Lima. As you make your way, learn about Lima and some of its important avenues, plazas, and other attractions. Upon arrival to the site, tour the adobe temple, which overlooks the ocean and the Lurin Valley. Initially built as a pilgrimage site used by many of the pre-Incan cultures that inhabited Peru, Pachacamac was eventually incorporated by the Inca themselves and used as an administrative center. Wander the premises, explore the Temple of the Sun, the Acllahuasi, the Taurichumbi Palace, and the Pilgrims Plaza, among others interesting features. You will also have the chance to better inform yourself with a visit to the on-site Museum, which houses varied remains found in the area. From here, enjoy the best of local gastronomy, accompanied by a fantastic Peruvian paso horse show, at the Los Ficus Hacienda, located in the Lurin Valley (at 34 km from Lima). As you watch, your guide will be sure to explain the history behind the tradition, the riding gear used, and the enfrenadura. At the arranged time, you will be transported back to Lima. Overnight stay in Lima.

A private car will transport you to your hotel on the Paracas bay. After settling in, make your way to the local airfield, where you will board a small aircraft and fly over the famed Nasca lines. These huge drawings – depicting a monkey, hummingbird, condor, spider, and numerous other animals and insects – can only be appreciated in full from the sky. Their origins remain unknown to this day despite various hypotheses, the most popular of which is that they represent an ancient astronomical calendar. After landing, return to your hotel and spend the rest of the morning enjoying the hotel’s facilities and surrounding areas. Indulge in a delicious lunch, followed by an afternoon riding through sand dunes in one of the driest deserts in the world, on 4x4 all-terrain vehicles driven by expert drivers. Return to hotel. Overnight in Paracas.

** A minimum of 5 passengers are required for this activity.

Early morning departure to the Ballestas Islands on a local boat. As you make your way, look out for the “chandelier,” a giant figure akin to the Nasca Lines, also drawn in the sand. As you approach the islands, you will have the chance to observe sea lions, pelicans, Humboldt penguins, and other sea birds. Afternoon return to Lima. Overnight stay in Lima.

Early morning private transfer to the airport to catch your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, a company representative will meet you and assist in your transfer to the hotel. Spend the rest of the morning at leisure, making sure to ease into the altitude. As the day goes on, explore the streets and plazas of Cusco at your own pace. Overnight stay in Cusco.

Today, you will travel to the remote places of the Sacred Valley. First stop: Chinchero. Walk around this beautiful town and its amazing archaeological complex before being invited to enjoy a short exhibit of local weavings. Known for its ancestral textile traditions and natural dying techniques, Chinchero offers some of the highest quality weavings in the country. From here, the tour continues to Moray, a fascinating site that houses a series of circular terraces that lower into the earth. Although it resembles an amphitheater, this site was actually used as an agricultural laboratory by the Inca’s, who recreated different microclimates on the various terraces of different altitudes. After touring the site, enjoy a picnic-style lunch before continuing on to Maras, the millenary colonial salt mines. The contrast of the white salt pools against the green valley is postcard-worthy. Your last stop is the town of Ollantaytambo, a small town that has been inhabited since Inca times and continues to shine with local traditions and flair. Here, you will visit the main fortress used during the Inca resistance, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley and the town below, perfect for pictures. Overnight stay in the Sacred Valley.

After a tasty breakfast, a private vehicle will transfer you to Pachar, in the Urubamba Valley, where your river rafting adventure awaits. After a quick, but thorough safety briefing, your guide will fully equip you and lead you to the calm waters for a practice session. Once you feel comfortable, head down river and admire the spectacular views of surrounding mountains and archaeological ruins as the waters begin to pick up, eventually taking you through level II and III rapids. The experience finishes with a thrilling trip through El Resbaladero (The Slide), a strong class III rapid with waves and small whirlpools. After getting back on dry land, your guide will lead you to a traditional restaurant on the riverside, owned by a local family, for lunch. This is the perfect place to enjoy classic Andean cuisine, while simultaneously supporting community projects. From here, explore the nearby archaeological site before taking off on a horseback riding adventure along the riverside. As you journey, make sure to look around at the small villages, farms, and Andean terraces along the way, and take in the regional feel.

Overnight stay in the Sacred Valley.

Board your train and revel in the incredible beauty as you traverse the lush, green valleys that lead to Aguas Calientes. Upon arriving, a staff member will guide your to the bus that will take you up the winding path, to the gate of one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Take in the undeniable energy as you spend the day touring The Lost City of the Incas, with its endless display of terraces, ceremonial shrines, steps, and urban areas. After a guided visit, you will have time to wander the site before heading off to enjoy lunch in one of the local restaurants. Dinner and overnight stay in Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu.

Today, you have the chance to visit the Lost City of the Incas first thing in the morning, before the crowds appear. Follow your guide across the incredible terraces, up and down stairways, and through ceremonial rooms and urban areas, learning about the incredible Inca culture as you explore, and taking in the energy that undeniably radiates from the site. Afterwards, you will have time to explore the citadel on your own, followed by lunch in one of the many local restaurants. At a pre-determined time, board the train that will take you back towards Cusco. Transfer to hotel. Overnight in Cusco.

A private vehicle will take you to the airport for your departure to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival to the city of Puerto Maldonado, you will receive assistance and the necessary information for your stay. From here, head to your lodge. As you make your way through the beautiful scenery, your guide will be on the lookout to share any exciting animals species lurking about. After settling into the hotel, enjoy a free afternoon. Reserva Amazonica offers an exciting assortment of optional tours you can choose from, if you so desire. We recommend indulging in a guided tour along the Inkaterra trail system, so you have the chance to learn about the area and its local flora and fauna. As night falls, take a boat trip down the Madre de Dios River, and observe how the jungle transforms as darkness falls, and the diurnal animals give way to the creatures of the night. After dinner, you will have the chance to attend a talk about life in the rainforest. Overnight at the lodge.

After a hearty breakfast, take a trip to the heavenly Sandoval Lake, where you can see various species of birds and monkeys coexisting along with river otters, caimans, piranhas, and giant paiches. After exploring the area, enjoy a reenergizing lunch before heading to the infamous Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. Ascend to the tops of the trees and see the jungle from a completely different and unique perspective as you traipse across the network of bridges, which link together eight observation platforms. Here, you will have the chance to watch the sun set into the green below. After descending back into the jungle, your guide will lead you across 200 meters of wooden bridges over the Aguajales Swamps, for the "Anaconda Hike." In this lush environment, you will have the chance to see a variety of amphibians, birds, mammals, and plant species. At night, attend the presentation on Nature at the Eco Center. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

After enjoying a satisfying breakfast, you will be taken on a 45-minute boat trip up the Madre de Dios River, back to Puerto Maldonado.
