DAY 1: LIMA | INC: -

Upon your arrival in Lima, you will be met by a member of the Viajes Pacifico staff, who will assist you with your luggage and provide a brief city orientation and helpful information. Transfer to hotel. Overnight stay in Lima.

Explore Lima on your own terms and design your day around what interests you most, with help from your experienced guide. Make your way through the chaotic and historically rich city center; tour the architecturally diverse, upper-class neighborhood of San Isidro; wander around the young and lively touristic area of Miraflores; visit some of the most interesting, top-notch stores in the city, and pick up a variety of handicrafts, silver trinkets, or fine alpaca and cotton goods. Be sure to ask your guide to recommend a lunch spot from the many fabulous local alternatives. Then, spend the rest of your afternoon relaxing at your hotel and enjoying the facilities before evening descends. For dinner, indulge in a sophisticated, one-of-a-kind culinary experience at the Tragaluz Restaurant within the Belmond Miraflores Park Hotel. Overnight in Lima.

Early morning transfer to the airport to catch your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival in the city of Cusco, you will be met by a company representative and taken to the Sacred Valley, the ideal place to begin your visit, as it allows for a gradual acclimatization to the altitude. As you make your way, enjoy a short visit to the historic Pisac Market – known for being the best artisanal handcraft market in Cusco – and take the time to admire the colors and traditions of surrounding communities. While you peruse, you will be invited to indulge in the delicious, local empanada, baked in the town, wood-burning oven. From here, head to the Belmond Rio Sagrado Hotel to check in, followed by a succulent lunch at Wayra Restaurant. Enjoy the relaxed, Terraza salon within the Wayra Restaurant, and be sure to leave any formalities at the door and sink into the amazing surrounding scenery. Impressive mountains, colorful popular art, grand murals, and an inspiring garden come together to create a one of a kind ambiance for a delicious and peaceful lunch. As you dine, enjoy a glamorous Peruvian paso horse show and watch as skilled professionals perform the traditional marinera dance (dances may vary). Spend the rest of the afternoon leisurely enjoying the hotel’s facilities. An optional spa session is highly recommended. Overnight stay at Urubamba.

Today, you will travel to the remote places of the Sacred Valley. First stop: Chinchero. Walk around this beautiful town and its amazing archaeological complex before being invited to enjoy a short exhibit of local weavings. Known for its ancestral textile traditions and natural dying techniques, Chinchero offers some of the highest quality weavings in the country. From here, the tour continues to Moray, a fascinating site that houses a series of circular terraces that lower into the earth. Although it resembles an amphitheater, this site was actually used as an agricultural laboratory by the Inca’s, who recreated different microclimates on the various terraces of different altitudes. After touring the site, enjoy a picnic-style lunch before continuing on to Maras, the millenary colonial salt mines. The contrast of the white salt pools against the green valley is postcard-worthy. Your last stop is the town of Ollantaytambo. This small town has been inhabited since Inca times and continues to shine with local traditions and flare. Here, you will visit the main fortress used during the Inca resistance. This key site offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley and the town below, perfect for pictures. Overnight stay in the Sacred Valley.

After a transfer to the Ollantaytambo Train Station, board the exclusive and luxurious Hiram Bingham Train, and get ready for one of the most spectacular journeys through the lush valleys and towards the incredible Machu Picchu Archeological site. The experience onboard is first class all around. Train cars are decorated in an inviting, classic style that combines perfectly with the delicious onboard cuisine, carefully prepared by experienced chefs. Take in the breathtaking surrounding landscapes as the train borders the Urubamba River, eventually approaching the town of Aguas Calientes. From there, you will disembark and be led to the small bus that will take you up the winding road to gate of the Machu Picchu Citadel. The Lost City of the Incas is effortlessly impressive, with its terraces, ceremonial shrines, steps, and solar clock or Intihuatana. Here, you can enjoy a guided tour of the site before being invited to indulge in an afternoon teatime. Overnight stay at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge.

Enjoy a morning at leisure. If you so please, make your way to the Lost City of the Incas first thing in the morning, before the crowds appear. Follow your guide across the incredible terraces, up and down stairways, and through ceremonial rooms and urban areas, learning about the incredible Inca culture as you explore, and taking in the energy that undeniably radiates from the site. Afterwards, you will have a bit more time to explore the citadel on your own. At a pre-determined time, board the train that will take you back towards Cusco. Entertainment and fine gourmet dinner on board. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the Monasterio hotel in a private vehicle. Overnight stay in Cusco.

Spend the day touring around the city of Cusco at your own pace. Your guide will accompany you as you wander the city streets by foot, making your way into the lesser-known areas of town, as well as the ‘main attractions.’ Stop by the impressive Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Site, where you can take in the monumental architecture surrounded by peaceful nature, and enjoy a great view of the city below. If there is time and the desire, make your way to Cusco’s Southern Valley and visit the Huaro Church and the Tipon Archeological Site – a temple dedicated to water, considered one of the ‘wonders of hydraulic engineering.’ At noon, head to the MAP café and enjoy a delicious tasting menu. Overnight stay in Cusco.

Private transfer to the airport at a pre-arranged time for your departure to Lima. Upon arrival, a Viajes Pacifico representative will be waiting to assist you in your international departure.
