Caral, The Sacred City

Caral, The Sacred City

Detailed Itinerary

Head north of Lima to the Sacred Valley of Caral, the oldest archeological complex in the Americas. Dating back to over 5000 years, Caral is almost as ancient as Egypt, China, and India. Upon arriving, begin your excursion by perusing the information panels before making your way through the site and seeing the pyramids, the plaza, and the granaries. As you wander the grounds, take the time to appreciate the different monumental structures divided across the two halves of the city – Upper Caral, located on the north side, and Lower Caral, located on the south side – which include: the Major Pyramid, the amphitheater temple, the Gallery Pyramid, the Quarry Pyramid, the Huanca Pyramid, the Minor Pyramid, and the temple of the circular altar. After concluding your visit, your guide will take you to the Empedrada Lodge, where you will be received with a glass of wine or bubbly, and an assortment of local fruits. Stroll through the avocado and mandarin groves, led by a knowledgeable guide, and learn about the sowing and harvest processes. The excursion concludes with a delicious lunch served at the hotel.
