2D/1N Palcoyo Mountain

RAINBOW MOUNTAIN RANGE (PALCCOYO) & STONE FOREST

Very early in the morning we will start our trip to the Community of Palccoyo located south east of Cusco. On the way we will have the possibility of seeing the evolution of the road system through three bridges: the Inca (XV Century); the Colonial (Centuries of the XVII to XVIII) and the Modern one that dates from the year 1895 and is made of railway lines. After passing the access control booth and a short stop for breakfast, we will arrive to Huallatakunka where we will begin our walk to get to know this new attraction. Just a few meters from the start we can see the first mountain of a vast mountain range with colors similar to the rainbow, which gives a cheerful and at the same time mystical. This natural beauty is the sister of the famous Vinicunca but closer and with better accessibility. We will enjoy spectacular views through three viewpoints that we will find during our walk, in one of them we can see up to 3 mountains of colors at the same time and in another we will have an impressive view of the Ausangate mountain on one side and on the other side we will have the Cordillera de Vilcanota in front of us. Finally, we will continue our upward journey towards the enigmatic Stone Forest, ideal for lovers of adventure and nature.

At the end of the hike, we will return to mobility to go to the district of Quehue, province of Canas on the Apurimac River. We will visit Q'eswachaka, the last Inca bridge, a fascinating experience. This suspension bridge that lies on the Apurimac River, is unique in its kind, handmade and renewed year after year by means of a four-day ritual executed by the local communities. We will have the opportunity to cross this impressive Inca construction of 28 meters long, living the adrenaline to the maximum.

2D/1N MONTAÑA PALCOYO

Day 1: Checacupe, Palccoyo, Rural Tourism in Qehue, the Qeswachaqa Bridge
The day begins with an early morning departure towards Cusco’s southern valley – a less-explored area that houses many historic and cultural treasures. Your first stop: the beautiful town of Checacupe where you will have the chance to visit the church and the 3 bridges (Inca, Colonial, and Republican). From here, you will continue on to the Palccoyo Community, until reaching Huallatakunka, from where you will begin your tour around this interesting site. The first mountain of the range is located just a few meters from the starting point of the tour. The extensive multicolored mountain range that has attracted much attention due to its stunning photogenic qualities, as well as its mystic ambiance. Revel in the spectacular views from any of the three viewpoints that you will come across during your hike: one showcases three colorful mountains together, while another frames the Ausangate mountain on one side with the Vilcanota Mountain Range on the other. After taking in the scenery, continue on to the district of Qehue, home of the Q’eswachaka hanging bridge. Here, local community members will welcome you and serve as your hosts. After a delicious and well-deserved lunch, take some time to share with the people who care for this living Inca legacy by building and renovating the bridge each year. Then, go into a local community member’s home, where you can witness a demonstration of the grass-braiding technique that is used for the bridge. Last, but surely not least, you will have the chance to cross the ancient bridge, and take in its history, which dates back over 500 years. Dinner and overnight in a rural home.

 

Day 2: Rural Tourism in Qehue and Four Lagoon Circuit
Enjoy a hearty breakfast with community members before taking part in a textile or agriculture demonstration. Then, say goodbye to your gracious hosts and continue on to the 4 Lagoon Circuit: Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnascocha, Tungasuca or Pampamarca. Wander around the lagoons and take some time to snap photographs of the breathtaking natural wonders. Lunch at a local restaurant before returning to the city of Cusco.
