Jorge Chávez Airport will begin its expansion in the beginning of 2020
The Lima Airports Partners (LAP) franchise, which operates the Jorge Chavez Airport, has announced that the preparatory and environmental work for the expansion of the airport will begin in the first trimester of 2020. This launch marks the onset of the construction of the new air terminal in Callao. Representatives for the franchise added that the cleaning and preventing of air pollution will be part of this project. The project starts with the installation of a temporary parameter-marking fence, and all necessary preparations for the installation of a well-drainage system within the grounds. “The preliminary work should last about a year; it will be culminated in the first trimester of 2020, to then subsequently give way to the construction phase,” they stated.
In addition, the franchise informed the public that the completion of the second landing strip is predicted for the year 2022, and that the new terminal will be complete by the year 2024. “These projects allow us to increment our capacity for attention to approximately 35 million passengers per year,” they stated. The total airport project investment will be of US$ 26 million this year, and US$ 13 million in 2020 and 2021 to improve current operations.
